2021 is finally upon us! 2020 brought many difficult, unexpected events, so we hope that with the new year comes new hope and endless blessings for not only our community, but our world. However, it’s important to recognize that just because it’s a new year, doesn’t mean things are going to return to normal. There are still many restrictions due to COVID-19, and following these guidelines is important to help keep everyone in our community safe and healthy.

But, just because we have to follow these guidelines, doesn’t mean we have to forego the things that are important to us. Instead, we just have to adapt! That’s why this week’s Encounter Church blog is offering some ideas on how to stay involved in your church this year. Whether you’re required to stay home due to your local restrictions or you’ve just gotten so comfortable doing so that you’d prefer to stay comfy instead of getting dressed up, here are five ideas for how to remain involved.

Encounter Church is a non-denominational church in Denver that offers a wide range of events aimed to bring our community together. From ministries to prayer groups to church services, we’ve got it all! Download a Bible App

If you’re planning to stay home instead of attending church events, we first recommend downloading a Bible app on your smartphone or tablet. Thankfully, there are plenty of options, so it’s up to you which you choose.

Some apps guide you through studying the Bible and allow you to customize your reading experience. Not only do many of these apps also offer prepared plans to help you study various parts of the Bible, but they also allow you to connect with others. Apps also offer a nice advantage because they can be used on-the-go.

Join a Zoom Bible Study

If you’ve chosen to download a Bible app and would like to become part of a Bible study group, there are plenty of ways to do so. Your church may offer groups, but if you’d like to create or join your own virtual group, we suggest using a platform such as Zoom or Google to involve everyone.

Be sure to test your equipment before you start and ensure you have a sufficient connection to be able to contribute meaningfully to the discussion.

Attend an Online Worship Service

If you regularly attended church services before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it’s likely something you’ve continued to do, even as the services moved online. However, if not, we encourage you to begin attending online services and then eventually making it a regular thing. Not only are you gaining all the benefits of regularly attending church services, such as connecting with God, filling your life with a deeper meaning, and becoming closer with your community members, but now, you can do it all from the comfort of your own home! Sit back with a hot cup of coffee and enjoy!

Pray for Others

Times are tough and people could use your prayers now more than ever. While you’re stuck at home with some free time, try praying for others. Praying for others not only helps make an impact on peoples’ lives, as you’re helping to usher the hand of God, but it can also help you change your heart towards the people you’re praying for.

Praying for others helps you get a better understanding of what others are going through, making you more empathetic, and hopefully, uniting you with others. Try asking your friends, family, or loved ones if they have something specific they’d like you to pray for. If they don’t have a specific event, pay close attention to what’s going on in their lives and find something you believe may be troubling them. For instance, if you know that someone’s mother or father has a big procedure coming up, pray for health, wellness, and a full recovery. When praying for others, we encourage you to be specific so that God is sure to understand what is important to you.

Spread Love & Positivity Safely

The world has felt quite heavy lately for many reasons. Whether people are being affected by the events of the world or simply things happening in their personal lives, there’s no doubt that everyone is facing some sort of trial or tribulation.

To help combat this, we recommend working to spread positivity and love. It’s completely up to you how you’d like to go about this, as anything will make a difference. Whether you want to create signs with positive messages and hold them on your neighborhood street corner, or you’d like to make a donation to a local organization, it doesn’t matter as long as you’re helping others.
