The Last Supper (Matthew 26:1-5, 20-35)
Brite Idea: Jesus chose to be our sacrifice.
The religious leaders schemed against Jesus, plotting to get rid of Him. During the Passover meal, Jesus revealed that one of His disciples would betray Him. Judas asked if he was the betrayer, and Jesus agreed. Jesus talked about His coming sacrifice using bread and wine, symbolizing His body and blood. They sang before heading to the Mount of Olives, where Jesus predicted the disciples would desert Him. Peter promised He never would, but Jesus said Peter would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed.
Throughout the Old Testament, God gave hints of what the Rescuer would have to do to save us from our sin. Even the Passover was a hint, as Jesus was called the “Lamb of God,” (John 1:29) reminding us of the lambs who died so the Israelites could be saved in Egypt. Jesus’ body would be broken, and His blood would be shed when He died on the cross. He would do all this to rescue God’s people and provide forgiveness for sin.
Think About It: Jesus is the Lamb of God!

God Encounters:
Please join me in praising our God. We began to use a new curriculum in January of 2025. Since then, the kids have been more engaged and only got one review question wrong after two months.
The curriculum has been adopted for all our children’s ministries. Siblings now have the opportunity to discuss their Sunday lessons together. That will deepen their understanding, and we owe all this to God.
I will pay you $1 to tell me what you think of the new curriculum.
Philippians 2:13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Navigating a Broken World: People Who Are Different
People tend to gravitate to others who are similar. Kids naturally do this as well. The downside comes when kids exclude, or even fear, people who are different from them. This can show up in racial differences, socioeconomic differences, and differences of ability, such as kids with special needs. Help kids recognize everyone is welcomed by God. Watch out for your own biases, being cautious not to show preferences to some people over others. In this week’s story, kids will learn Jesus welcomed all people. Help make your group a place that models Jesus’ acceptance of all kids.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss at home:
Discuss: What are some ways that other people might be different from us?
Discuss: Have you ever seen someone be treated differently because they were different? What was that like?
Discuss: What do you think God says about this?
Say: Our world can be very divided. People tend to like others who look like them, think like them and talk like them. Sometimes differences make us uncomfortable. Sometimes we may decide we don’t like someone because they look, act or dress differently than we do. God loves everyone, and every person is made in His image. That makes every person important, even if they are different from us. God created a huge variety of people—different races, cultures, languages, interests, abilities and so much more. And He loves each unique person. In John 13:34, Jesus says: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” Jesus loved and welcomed everyone! We can follow His example and show His love to every person, even if they are different from us.

Testimonies
God gives us new testimonies every day! I want you to continue to expect your own testimonies, even if you do not realize them yet.
How?
Listen to God and trust what He says and how He speaks to you. As always, make sure it is God by comparing His direction with the Bible and/or asking a spiritual leader to help you. Everything God does is a testimony, so pay attention. Write the testimony down and share it with others. Remember to say, “Thank you, Lord!” after He speaks.
“With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be alert with all perseverance and every request for all the saints,” – Ephesians 6:18
