Being Motivated by the “Law”
Pastor Reece Bowling
Hebrews 10:24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
In Israel I was impressed and motivated by the devotion of the Orthodox Jewish people, not to copy their behaviors but to walk in a similar devotion to God. They have a passion to follow God’s word. This passion affects every aspect of their lives. I think we should aim for a similar radical devotion but in the context of being followers of the teachings of Jesus and the Holy Spirit’s leadings in our lives.
Let’s get motivated!
- Lasting motivation and devotion always begin with understanding why God asks us to follow.
Because he cares about you.
Joshua 1:8
But healthy devotion doesn’t result only from the pursuit of personal success
Because he also cares about other people too.
1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully,
What did Jesus say about the law?
Mark 12:29-31
Showing devotion to God and loving our neighbor’s are never in conflict. They are equally important.
In fact, Jesus preached that love IS the new law.
John 13:33
God leads us to prosper and thrive but he also loves through us – Story of friend and his church
- How do we know what God wants?
The Spirit and Word
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Hebrews 8:10 But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Ezekiel 36:26-27
It’s the Spirit in us that gives us the desire and power to do the Scriptures teach us that God wants.
Philippians 2:13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
- What should we be doing?
Cultivating lifestyles of listening, recognizing, and responding.
